Hello everyone my name is Miguel Cantero. I’m a retired NYC Correction Officer. I worked on Rikers Island my entire Career. From 1982-1990 I served in the United States Marine Corps.
I am here today to talk about travel. Six (6) of the eight (8) years I served were spent overseas. At nineteen(19) I was stationed at The American Embassy Brussels Belgium. while there I was able to travel to various locales such as Paris, France and several cities in Germany.
I was then stationed in what was formerly The American Consulate General Zagreb Yugoslavia before the Civil war. I was able to Travel down the Adriatic Coast to the Coastal town of Dubrovnik. While here we were able to venture into Italy where we visited the towns of Aviano and Trieste
I returned to the states and nearly (6) months later I’M on a ship sailing to the western coast of Africa. Landing on the Island Nation of Cape Verde and then down the Western Coast stopping at Senegal, Gambia, Guinea- Bissau, Guinea, Sierra-Leone and Liberia.
We then cruised down and around South America starting with Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina, Chile, thru the Straits of Magellan, to Peru, Ecuador, Columbia, Panama and thru the Canal to Venezuela.
My next venture took me on a 18 hour plane ride from Alaska to Okinawa, Japan. I was stationed in remote Camp Schwab for six months except for the month spent in Camp Mudchuck in Pusan, South Korea freezing.
In Eight (8) years of service I was able to visit many countries. Now that I am retired I would like to retrace some of my footsteps with my wife and Kids so they can experience some of the things I got to do at an early age.
Since I’ve been working from the ripe young age of 17. I feel it’s time for me to run around and travel throughout the USA. I’ve been around the world now I want to see the USA.
This is why I post the trips from my Travel Club to share what I’m going to embark on in the near future with others. I want to share Information with others that want to travel.
I would like to accomplish getting the word out on taking time for yourself and your families. We to often go on Vacations and go absolutely nowhere. That has to stop.
